What is Smash Cut?
Smash Cut is a technique in film/video where one scene abruptly cuts to another for aesthetic, narrative or emotional impact. So, BlakTinx’s third virtual concert uses this as a diving off point, embracing this genre, digging deeper into choreographic and technical experimentation.
Ten choreographers bring their individual, dynamic movement style and artistic visions to embody Smash Cut, expressing tenacity, hope, lineage, humor and surprise!

What is Blaktinx Dance Festival?
The Blaktinx Dance Festival is a movement festival of cutting-edge work celebrating Black and Latinx choreographers. Licia Perea, Latina Dance Project founding member, produced the first BlakTinx Dance Festival at the Bootleg Theater in 2013. The goal is to give Latinx and Black choreographers an opportunity to celebrate and share their unique and important voices.
The Latina Dance Project began in 2002 as a collaborative ensemble of multidisciplinary artists who, through performance, explore controversial issues impacting the global community. The company’s projects create experiences that celebrate a new aesthetic in dance theater. They reflect the diverse Latinx cultures, shedding light and provoking reflections that can bring about change.
