This blog is out of the way of my usual blogs. The blog is supposed to be advice for actors.

I tend to focus on studying acting, our process, the business of acting (parts 1, 2, and 3), and the life of being an actor. This month I’m going on a tangent, because I want to endorse and spread an article from a writer that I recently read.

We have a lot of discussions in our classes of what we do as actors, how we show humanity, vulnerability, and the human side of the complex human animal.  Great acting performances inspire their audience. We get to live vicariously through the performances and characters we watch. By watching them we cry, love, laugh, feel, get in touch with our own feelings and point of views of life.

And if it’s great writing and acting, we contemplate on the message and may even change the way we are. It’s my opinion and passion that that is what we do, who we are, and why we do it.

This month I want to talk about an entire show that I think speaks to this.  I read an interesting article on Casting Networks by Cat Elliott on 7/12. I credit her here and recommend you read it and I say thank you Cat, as I have been having the same feelings that she so wonderfully expressed. I suggest you check her article out. It’s titled “3 Reasons “Ted Lasso” is the Model Our Industry Needs.” It can be found on Casting Networks.com. Here is the link

In it, Cat gives three reasons why it models what the industry needs. She says they are the following:

1. It demonstrates integrity and accountability.

2.  It shows us what genuine apologies look like, and

3. It exemplifies forgiveness.

She nails it and I agree wholeheartedly. I’d also like to add in season one there were no guns or violence that I could recall, and it’s magical that it takes place in another country. The symbolism of that to me is inspiring.

Check it out, read her blog, and watch the show. Season one is already out, and season two starts this month. It’s funny, witty, entertaining, inspiring, educational ,and gives a great message to what we need to get back to in our country.

Thank you again, Cat Elliot.

Take care,
