Truth in acting, truth in character, and truth in a scene, all come from a real place. The trick is to find that truth and play it.
This Dramatic Improv Workshop deals with truth in character. Who is your character, what are they doing in the scene, and what do they want. Seems simple enough, but in order to play an authentic character that convinces the audience/camera believe what they hear and see, ultimately comes from our imagination. Exploring the depths of character comes from practice.
Using improvisational tools; listening, agreement, and adding additional information, are essential in understanding your character’s motivations and wants, obstacles and conflicts, and epiphanies and resolutions. By using the text/script and expanding the moment to what happens before the scene and afterwards helps greatly in discovering the connection between yourself and the character you are playing. You, as a person, may or may not have freewill, but your character has no freewill at all. Their lives have been literally scripted from the moment the audience meets them until the end of the play/film. Our job as actors is to make every moment believable to the audience.
In this workshop we will be exploring truth in Character by using ourselves as vessels in which your character and you can coexist. The exercises and skills learned will be your toolkit to play an authentic character that is as real as the person watching the play/movie.
Javier Ronceros has worked with numerous award winning actors, producers & directors over a 30 year career in Television, Film and theatre. He has taught Acting at the SAG Conservatory Los Angeles at the American Film Institute, Casa 0101, Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory, at various award winning theatres in Los Angeles and privately for many years. Javier is is also a Director and a Writer.
